Abrar Fahad killing: Bangladesh student was beaten for four hours

Summary: Abrar Fahad was a student that studied at Dhaka’s Bangladesh University of Engineering. He was kidnapped from his dorm, taken to another and was beaten repeatedly. Reports say the motive of this was because Fahad posted on a social media platform criticizing the government. Autopsy reports also say that Fahad died because of blunt force trauma in his body and there is a theory he died from blunt objects that were used. Students protested the death of Fahad and demanded the death penalty to the men that killed Fahad.

Reaction:
No, I don’t consider the death penalty to be an appropriate punishment for these men. Instead of the death penalty I feel it is more reasonable for the men to sit in prison and pay for their crime. No. the reasoning to Fahad’s death is not justified because it is not a crime to post your opinion online even if others don’t agree with it.

Questions:

  1. Do you think the death penalty is an appropriate punishment ?
  2. Do you think the reasoning to Fahad's death is justified ?
  3. What punishment do you think is appropriate for these men ?

  1. I think that the family of Fahad should be able to decide the punishment for the people who killed him. I think the death penalty is appropriate only if the family chooses to do so. I think Fahad's death is not justifiable because the people who killed him did it out of hate. I think they deserve life in prison for murdering a kid who tried expressing his opinion over social media.

  2. I think what happened to Fahad was very terrible and unfair, but the death penalty is too much for any person. The men who killed Fahad should be in prison for a really long time or for life. And I don't think anyone should die for having an opinion of something.

  3. The penalty is an appropriate penalty because a life for a life is fair enough but the family of the dude should decided what to do. What happened to Fahad was very unfair because he was saying his own opinion and this is a free country and he has rights to freedom of speech.

  4. The penalty is appropriate you should never take someones life based on their own personal views. Fahads death is not justified he was just using his right of freedom of speech. The death penalty or life in prison is justifiable.

  6. I believe that his death is not justifiable because he was just stating his opinion and was killed because of it. I believe that the men should face life in prison for killing Fahad.
