Summary - Around three weeks ago the Amazon rainforst was set ablaze. Many believe that the fire was man made, however, there is no concrete proof that shows this claim is true. The people of Brazil and many around the world are wondering who is responsible, so people have been turning to the president of Brazil (Jair Bolsonaro). The president hasnt done much to stop these fires which has caused him to be bombarded by massive amounts of critisim. Recently other wealthy countries have come together to help raise money creating a total of around 22 million dollars. Unfortunatly, Bolsonaro declined the offer and told these countries to focus more on themselves rather than Brazil. Many people around the world see Bolsonaro as joke and are furious with his actions. Later on at G7 summit meeting he declined another aid package from France, only to later on to show signs of intrest in the offer. After further discussion at the meeting Brazil accepted 12 million dollars from Britain. Even though Brazil's president isnt helping, other countries are, for example, Bolivia who is also being affected by the fires contracted a Boeing 747 "Supertank" that can carry over 30,000 gallons of water. At this point in time there isnt much we can do other than to donate to charities that are helping the cause. History Connection - This connects to the Bracero Program because when president Roosevelt sent out the executive order to begin the Bracero Program he was careless and the program's structure was not properly analyzed to ensure the workers saftey and health. The same is happening with Brazil's president, he isnt making the saftey of the indigenous people or the forest a priority.
Question - If you were in the presidents position what would you do to deal with the fires?
If I Were in the presidents position I would put all my focus into finding different ways to stop the fire. The main reason I would do this is because these fires are polluting the atmosphere in a very fast manner which can cause a lot of issues in Brazil. People will have trouble breathing and this might cause death to a good amount of around the area.

DeleteIf I was president in this situation, I would've accepted the money from the wealthiest countries. I would do so because I could use this money to help find situations to stop the fire. It also shows how countries need to support each other when bad things happen.

DeleteIf I were in the presidents position, I would take advantage of the bigger donations from the other wealthy countries. If any money is remaining it would be given back. Accepting the money can lead to a faster solution to ending the fire and decreasing its spread.
ReplyDeleteif i were the president i would first have to start planting more trees but keep the burnt trees there because it produces fertile. then have to address how to stop the fires in the future and what precautions could be used. i would just replant trees to reproduce all we have lost.
ReplyDeleteif i were to be president i would take as many supporters i could to help stop the fire, as well as help clean up the environment. i would also look into more precautions to help safe the environment
ReplyDeleteIf I were the president in this situation then I would do anything I can in my power to put out the fire. Then after I would do what I can to help remake the forest by planting plants to rebuild the forest.
